DisprinComplaint from member of the public that Disprin was suspected as a cause of sickness and diarrhoea.Chem.The composition of the tablets was found to accord with the formula on the labels and complied with the tests for purity of the B.P., for Soluble Aspirin Tablets.A sample of disprin was purchased from the same shop and submitted as a check sample with those subject to complaint. This sample was similarly reported upon. Complainant notified. No further action.
Corned Beef, CannedComplaint from member of the public that corned beef was tainted.Chem.No abnormal taint was observed and the corned beef was judged to be of normal edible quality.Complainant notified.
Pineapple Cubes, CannedComplaint from member of the public that pineapple cubes had an oily taste.Chem.The specimen had a slight oily taint suggesting paraffin and was unpalatable.Contamination may have been effected in complainant's home as on investigation of complaint there was a very noticeable oily smell in and around the house as a result of motor car repairs being carried out. Further samples taken from same retailer proved genuine. Complainant notified. No further action.
Corned Beef, CannedCorned beef surrendered by retailer to Food Inspector to check complaint by consumer that it had peculiar taste.Chem.The specimen had an objectionable smell and was considered unfit for consumption.No evidence of decomposition was observed at the time of surrender. Complainant notified. No further action.
Grapefruit Juice, CannedSome tins in consignment were perforated and lining of can of this sample suspected to have deteriorated sincetime of packing.Chem.Contained tin. 300 parts per million, an excessive proportion.Public Analyst's report confirmed Inspector's opinion. Suspect tins surrendered.
