particularly those looking after the frail, the handicapped and the
deprived, is beyond praise, and I must also express my deep
gratitude to those who, by the nature of things, have been closest
to me in the direction of the affairs of the Department. This report
records the efforts and contributions of many and it has been my
happy task to act as the compiler, co-ordinator and editor. Any
merits which the report may have are due to the quality of the
many contributions which have been harvested from diverse
sources. I acknowledge gladly my indebtedness to all of them.
I trust that this year of endeavour by the Council will have
provided the citizens of Greenwich with the foundations of a structure
of service for the community which will bring credit to this
historic Borough.
