Health VisfroR Training
In accordance with Section 2 of the Health Visiting and
Social Work (Training) Act, 1962, the Council for the Training
of Health Visitors submitted to the Minister of Health revised
rules for the training of health visitors and these were approved
in December 1965. The revised rules replace those of 1964 and
give in more detail the content of and conditions of entry to
training courses and examinations.
Field Work Instructor Courses—In 1965, the first year of the new
health visitor training syllabus, it became compulsory to attach
health visitor students to Field Work Instructors for their practical
training. Accordingly, two health visitors were selected and
attended an appropriate course to fit them for this post.
Ultimately, the Borough will need at least six training field work
instructors.
Psychoprophylaxis Course—Two health visitors attended a
weekend course arranged by the National Childbirth Trust
enabling them to teach the Psychoprophylactic Method of preparation
for childbirth. They, in turn, have instructed other members
of the staff.
Student Health Visitors—This Borough is a practical training
area for students from the University of London Institute of
Education and for those taking the Integrated Course of Nurse
and Health Visitor Training arranged by Kings College Hospital
and the Royal College of Nursing.
In July, 1965, seven students from the Institute and two
from the Integrated Course were successful in the Health Visitor
examination having taken all or part of their practical training
in the Borough.
In October, 1965, eight students started their integrated
course of training with us subsequently going on to Kings College
Hospital in January, 1966. A further three students from the
Institute of Education came to the Borough in October for their
practical training.
The London Borough of Greenwich sponsored six students
for health visitor training, two at the Battersea College of Technology,
three at the Institute of Education and one at the South
East Essex College of Technology. These students who commenced
their training in October, 1965, should complete their
course in July, 1966?
In-Service" Training—Three newly appointed school nurses
attended daily for 4 days a course sponsored by The London
Boroughs Training Committee.
