Ophthalmia Neonatorum.—In respect of this disease no
notifications were received. One was recorded for 1958.
Poliomyelitis. —It has already been pointed out at the
commencement of this Section that the vagaries of notification
procedure have led to misleading statistics concerning specified
administrative areas but this proved of no consequence during the
current year as only 2 notifications of paralytic poliomyelitis were
received, neither one of which concerned a Greenwich resident.
Malaria.—One notification of benign tertian believed to have
been contracted in the Middle East was received from the Royal
Herbert Hospital in connection with a serviceman.
Tuberculosis.—During the year 46 notifications in respect of
confirmed cases of tuberculosis were received compared with 60
for 1958. Of these, 43 were of the pulmonary type and 3 nonpulmonary,
i.e., tuberculosis of parts of the body other than the
lungs.
