Portion of Cut Wrapped LoafComplaint by member of the public of small particles of black extraneous matter embedded in the bread.Chem.The analysis indicated that the black particles were composed of burnt flour and would not render the bread injurious to health.Complainant informed.
Remains of Joints of Lamb which had been cooked and reheatedTaken from a local canteen after an outbreak of food poisoning amongst people who had eaten part of the lamb.Bact.Staphylococcus aureus infection was present in the meat, due to careless food handling.A 30-minute lecture on the clean and careful handling of food was given to the canteen staff.
Remains of Roast Beef which had been cooked and reheatedTaken from a local canteen after an outbreak of food poisoning amongst people who had eaten part of the joint.Bact.No pathogenic organisms were isolated.Canteen authorities informed.
Portion of Cut Wrapped Loaf of BreadComplaint by a member of the public that bread contained a foreign body.Chem.The analysis revealed that the foreign body con-sisted of a black substance com-posed of mineral grease containing a quantity of iron in the form of very small particles.Warning letter sent to Bakers concerned.
Corned Beef with Cereal (canned)Taken from a Cold Store in the Borough.Bact.After incubation for 5 days at 37°C, all cans remained normal. Contents normal All cultures sterile.Importer notified.
A tin half-full of Coffee Preparation and the residue from a cup of Coffee which had been prepared with this powderComplaint by a member of the public that the coffee in the cup became a dark bluish/black colour and tasted bitter.Chem.The analysis revealed that the coffee extract powder was normal. The residue in the cup had an abnormally high, iron content, possibly due to some iron already deposited in the cup before the coffee was made. Consumption of this residue would not be harmful.Complainant notified.
