NOTIFICATION OF FOOD POISONING
Under the provisions of Section 26 of the Food and Drugs Act,
1955, every registered medical practitioner attending on any person
shall, if he suspects or becomes aware that any person is suffering
from food poisoning, forthwith notify such case to the Medical Officer
of Health.
There were 23 notifications received during the year compared
with 14 for the previous year, 12 for 1954, 9 for 1953, 10 for 1952,
4 for 1951 and 12 for 1950.
All cases, which were of the sporadic type, were investigated
with the following results:—
Unknown Cause 13
Salmonella typhimurium 7
Salmonella enteritidis 1
Salmonella infection 1
Paracolon bacilli 1
In no instance was any direct connection with any specific food
established.
In no case was hospital treatment necessary and each patient
made a complete recovery.
