Prevalence of, and control over, infectious and
other Diseases
During the year the Puerperal Pyrexia (Amendment) Regulations,
1954, were introduced amending the 1951 Regulations in that
they prescribe a new form of notification certificate for puerperal
pyrexia requiring the cause, if known, to be stated. The new
Regulations become effective from 1st March, 1955.
The total number of Infectious Diseases notified under Section
144 of the Public Health Act, 1936, Section 192 of the Public
Health (London) Act, 1936, and associated Orders and Regulations
was 472. Under the Public Health (Tuberculosis) Regulations,
1952, there were 107 notifications, giving a consolidated total of 579
cases notified during the year. In 10 of these cases the diagnoses
were not confirmed, thus giving a corrected figure of 569. The
following table indicates the figures for seven years :—
