syrup are regularly and carefully supervised.
The Ice Cream (Heat Treatment, etc.) Regulations, 1947 to 1952.—
The above Regulations were introduced to secure the elimination
of pathogenic organisms by a heat-treatment process similar to
that used in the pasteurisation of milk and, generally speaking, this
has been accomplished. The Amendment Regulations, introduced
on 5th May, 1952, served to provide a third method of heat treatment
for ice-cream.

On receipt of a Grade 3 or 4 report it is the practice in this
Borough to obtain further samples from a vendor before administrative
action is taken. It was necessary on 2 occasions during the
year to have recourse to ' administrative action.'
In the first instance, six of the nine samples obtained during
September proved unsatisfactory. The vendors and manufacturers
were notified of the result and the relevant information passed to the
M.O's.H. of the Boroughs in which the commodity was manufactured.
In the second instance, three of eight samples obtained during
October proved unsatisfactory and, of these, two were obtained from
the same vendor. It transpired that, of the last eleven samples
obtained from this vendor, six had proved unsatisfactory and that
his supplies were obtained from a manufacturer outside the Borough.
The Medical Officer of Health of the area concerned, when acquainted
with this undesirable situation, indicated that a full investigation
would be carried out.
