Continued Fever.—As in the case of the previous year no
notifications were received in respect of this disease.
Malaria.—Ten notifications were received, all from the Royal
Herbert Hospital and all in connection with military personnel.
Each case was of the benign tertian type believed to have been
contracted abroad.
Tuberculosis.—During the year 103 notifications in respect
of tuberculosis were received compared with 119 for 1952. In two
instances, however, patients were registered for both pulmonary
and non-pulmonary and the actual number of new cases recorded
was 101. Of these, 86 were of the pulmonary type and 15 nonpulmonary,
i.e., tuberculosis of parts of the body other than the
lungs.
The figure for the current year shows a reduction of some 15%
and as such is contrary to the general trend obvious throughout the
country.
