manufacturers of pharmaceutical sundries, mineral waters and icecream
as well as fruit-canning factories, flour millers and brewers.
To these premises the Food Inspectors made 5,907 visits, as a result
of which 210 improvements were effected. It is pleasing to record
that of the improvements obtained only one was prompted by the
issue of a Notice, the remainder being accomplished on verbal
instructions.

Bakehouses.—Of the 16 premises in the Borough being used
as bakehouses at the end of the year, 4 were of the basement type
in respect of which Suitability Certificates were in operation.
Bakehouses and bakers' shops were visited on 194 occasions and, as
a result of the inspections, 20 improvements were realised. These
alterations were effected solely by informal action.
