TUBERCULOSIS REPORT.
I am indebted to Dr. C. W. L. Jeanes, Tuberculosis Officer,
for the following report:—
In presenting this report of the work of Maze Hill Clinic it
is gratifying to be able to state that co-operation between your
Tuberculosis Officer and local doctors and hospitals has been well
maintained. Cordial relations exist between the staff of the Clinic
and the various local voluntary organisations concerned with the
care of patients.
In this report the long term results of several methods of treatment
of Pulmonary Tuberculosis have been reviewed. It will be
seen from the tables that in selected groups of cases the results of
treatment are very satisfactory. The "chronic" case of Pulmonary
Tuberculosis—often at home for years—is a great problem, and the
danger of this has been illustrated.
There are two registers kept at the Clinic: the first contains
the names of all notified cases of tuberculosis; and the second,
those who are actually under the care of your Tuberculosis Officer.
On 31st December 1947 there were 677 notified cases in the Borough,
but the number who actually attended the Clinic was 624. The
remaining 53 patients arranged for their treatment privately.
In 1947, 139 new cases of Tuberculosis of all types were notified,
and there were 5 transfers. Compared with previous years these
figures show no significant change since the end of the war.

Figures for recent years have been :—

Of these 139 notified cases, 125 came under the care of the
Dispensary, and were made up as follows:—
