I am indebted to Mr. K. L. Embley, Bath Superintendent
Engineer for the following remarks:—
The Public Baths and Washhouses in Trafalgar Road,
Greenwich contain three large swimming pools (one is out of order
owing to enemy action), 74 ladies' and gents' slipper baths, vapour
and medicated baths, and Public laundry.
The second class swimming bath is open to bathers all the year
round, the first class swimming baths is floored over during the
winter months (October to April) and the hall used for social
functions of all kinds.
The water in the swimming baths is continuously filtered,
aerated and chlorinated, the whole of the bath water being passed
through the pressure filters once every three and a quarter hours.
Chemical tests are taken twice daily, and bacteriological
tests taken periodically.

Attendances.—For year ended 31st December 1947:—

(a) includes 26,326 L.C.C. School-children
Owing to the occurrence during the second half of the year of
several cases of Infantile Paralysis in the Borough the holding of
Swimming Galas and other Public gatherings was considered
inadvisable, with the result that swimming bath attendances fell
by 12,934 compared with the preceding year.
Public Sanitary Conveniences etc.—There are 8 Public
Sanitary Conveniences provided by the Council.
In addition 6 Urinals, 5 Horse Troughs and 8 Drinking
Fountains are cleansed daily by attendants attached to the Department.
Exhumations.—Notice was received from the Home Office
of three exhumations at the Council's Cemeteries. In every instance
the Sanitary Inspector for the District was present to see that
the usual precautions were duly carried out.
