above, were considered most satisfactory and the final treatment
showed only a very small percentage of takes. The
Ministry, however, considered a further baiting of certain
points advisable, but takes were in the minority. It may
therefore, be assumed that the infestation is practically nonexistent
but observation is being kept. A scheme for complete
reconstruction of the premises is now under consideration.
Badcock's Wharf.—Request for treatment in this case was
received in November 1946 and continued until March 1947.
A considerable amount of difficult work was encountered
owing to the continuous movement of stores and the inclement
weather experienced in the early part of the year when
work was held up. In spite of difficulties the infestation was
reduced to a minimum and treatment ceased. It was, however,
pointed out that a re-infestation was probable. This recurred
in the course of a few weeks and further treatment was undertaken
and in November 1947 the premises were again practically
cleared of rats. The Management expressed satisfaction at the
way the work had been carried out but it was deemed necessary
to make periodical visits and treatment is continuing from time
to time to avoid any serious trouble in future.
Charlton Stadium.—Treatment was carried out over a period of
2 months. Activity was traced in Totalisator, 2 Buffets and
Kitchen; also in Boiler House, Electricians Shop, Power
House and under Stands. Evidence existed that rats emerged
from drainage holes in concrete wall around track. A rainwater
pipe was found fractured at the union with drain allowing
access; also cages were missing from vent pipes and these
defects were remedied. A long period of baiting was found
necessary at cable conduits which allowed access. Work
continued until it was considered a clearance had been effected.
Delta Metal Co.—This infestation was reported in March 1947
and treatment commenced. One hundred and twenty baits
were laid and good results obtained. The Management were
approached regarding an accumulation of rubbish on the
ground and first floor which afforded excellent harbourage for
rats and the nuisance was abated. A defective vent-pipe
was found which afforded access to rats—this defect was
remedied. Final clearance was effected at the end of April.
Convoys Ltd.—Owing to many complaints of rats from adjoining
property an investigation was made at these premises and an
infestation found in the paper storage yard. The usual method
of prebaiting and poisoning was adopted from 15/9/47 to
25/10/47 when infestation was presumably abated.
Lovell's Wharf.—In October 1947 a bad infestation was reported
