Acute Primary Pneumonia and Acute Influenzal Pneumonia.—These
causes were responsible for 74 cases as compared
with 64 for the previous year and 120 for the year 1944. Thirty-two
occurred in East Greenwich, 12 in West Greenwich, 2 in St. Nicholas
Deptford and 28 in Charlton and Kidbrooke.
There were three deaths arising from these diseases.
Typhoid Fever.—Four cases of Para-Typhoid were notified
during the year : two of these related to Nurses residing in hospitals'
nurses' homes in the Borough. In order to eliminate the possibility
of infection through the water supply, samples of tap water were
taken at these Homes ; both proved negative.
Two specimens were forwarded by Medical Practitioners for
bacteriological examination from' cases suspected to be Typhoid
Fever : both specimens gave negative results.
Scarlet Fever.—One hundred and eight cases were notified
as compared with 83 for the previous year and 129 for the year 1944.
In 5 cases the diagnosis was not confirmed, thus the actual number of
cases was 103. Of these, 58 were treated in Hospital. Fifty-six
occurred in East Greenwich, 15 in West Greenwich, 3 in St. Nicholas
Deptford and 29 in Charlton and Kidbrooke.
There was one death from this cause.
Erysipelas.—There were 17 cases of this disease notified as
compared with 24 for the previous year.
Zymotic Enteritis or Epidemic Diarrhoea.—Twenty-six
cases were originally notified as compared with 37 for the previous
year. In 3 cases the diagnosis was not confirmed. Of the 23 cases,
10 were under one year.
There were four deaths ascribed to this cause, 3 of which were
not notified.
Dysentery.—There were 8 cases originally notified during the
year : in one case the diagnosis was not confirmed. The number for
the previous year was 28.
