Sampling of Foods.—During the year, 433 samples were submitted
to the Public Analyst for analysis, of these 89 were formal
and 344 informal. The number of samples reported as adulterated
or not otherwise up to standard was 11 (10 informal and 1 formal),
equivalent to 2.5% of the total samples examined. After investigations,
it was not found necessary to institute legal proceedings
against vendors of the non-genuine samples.
Public Health (Dried Milk) Regulations, 1923 and 1927.—Four
samples were taken during the year of which 3 were found to comply
with the above regulations. Particulars of the non-genuine sample
were forwarded to the Ministry of Food for appropriate action.
Public Health (Condensed Milk)Regulations, 1923-1927.—Twelve
samples were taken during the year and in ten instances were
reported upon as genuine. The remaining samples were found not
to comply with the labelling regulations and the particulars were
reported to the Ministry of Food for necessary action.
