Supervision of Premises Including Factories where Food
is Prepared.—Included among the premises where food is prepared
are flour-millers, brewers, mineral water, pharmaceutical sundries
and fruit canning factories ; 3,940 inspections have been made of
these premises and a satisfactory state of hygiene is maintained.
It was found necessary to serve notices, to cleanse and limewash
or otherwise improve premises, on 72 occasions—improvements
being effected mainly on verbal instructions.

Blackheath Fair.—In order to ensure that a safe standard of
cleanliness is maintained amongst the numerous vendors of light
refreshments, including shellfish, stewed eels, ice cream, minerals,
etc., a Food Inspector is in attendance on all Bank Holidays. There,
vendors cater for the needs of thousands of visitors and constant
supervision of the food stalls is therefore necessary. With the
passage of time it has been noted that the " Sanitary Idea " has
taken root. Such is the spirit today that the Inspector is proudly
invited to see the new equipment or improved apparatus obtained
by the > tallholders. (A clean water supply and adequate sanitary
accommodation is provided by the London County Council Parks
Department).
