Illegitimate births numbered 89 representing 7.5 per cent
of the total live births.
DEATHS.
The number of deaths registered during the year 1945 was 813,
of which 454 were Males and 359 Females, as compared with 978
last year.
This largo decrease is mainly attributable to deaths arising
from war operations, the number returned being 26 from this
cause as against 143 for the year 1944.
The crude death rate for the Borough is 12.78 per thousand
as compared with 15.90 for the previous year.
The average death rate for the last 10 years is 13.39.
The death rates for the County of London and for England
and Wales are 13.8 and 11.4 respectively.
The inset table showing causes of death for all ages has been
supplied by the Registrar General and is included in accordance
with the request contained in the Ministry of Health Circular
No. 1650.
INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The Infantile Mortality rate measured by the deaths of children
under 1 year of age to the number of live births registered was 43
per thousand births, and is considerably lower than the rate for
last year, viz., 52.
The total number of deaths during the year was 52 as compared
with 62, 24, 36, 51 and 62, the respective figures for the years
1940, 1941, 1942, 1943 and 1944.
A table showing the causes of death and ages is included in
the Appendix of the Report.
For the whole of London the rate was 53 compared with 61
in 1944, 58 for 1943, 60 in 1942 and 68 in 1941. For England and
Wales the rate was 46 compared with 46 for 1944, 49 in 1943,
49 in 1942 and 59 in 1941.
