sampling of food and drugs has been carried out as in previous
years.
The comprehensive disinfestation scheme and the scheme
for supervision of rheumatic conditions in children, which were
formally approved during the year, were held in abeyance.
The Maternity Home was closed at the outbreak of hostilities.
At the time of the closure the first portion of the new pupil midwives
training scheme had been completed.
Following the closure of the Home, the demand for Home
Helps increased. At the end of the year it was found necessary
to consider additional facilities in respect of this service.
I have to acknowledge another year of loyal co-operation on
the part of the Health Department staff, and the support afforded
me by my colleagues in the other Departments.
Finally, I desire to thank the Chairman and members of the
Public Health and Maternity Committees for the consideration
shown to me during the past year.
I have the honour to be,
Your obedient Servant,
F. R. Waldron.
