Although 4,294 visits have been made to premises where food
is stored, prepared or sold, on no occasion has it been found necessary
to seize unsound food.
Slaughter-houses and Knackers' Yards.—At the end of
1938 there were 2 slaughter-houses and 1 knackers' yard in the
Borough, all of which are licensed annually. 256 visits were
made to these premises which are maintained satisfactorily.

The following table indicates the number of animals slaughtered and examined:—

Every carcase and the viscera therein is examined at time of
slaughter. The system necessitates attendance for late nights and
early morning duties in the Slaughter-houses.
