examination of every bakehouse in respect of which a certificate
has been issued, and to consider whether such certificate should
be continued or revoked.
By the end of the year a complete survey was made, as a result
15 were reported as being ineligible for re-opening as basement
bakehouses.
Certificates of continuance were granted in 10 cases after
certain reconstruction work had been carried out.
The number of Factories, etc., upon the Register at the close
of the year was 330. This number includes 68 Factories where
mechanical power is not used.
These premises were kept under systematic observation by
the Inspectors, who made 446 inspections. In the case of factories
where mechanical power is used, the duty of inspection is mainly
carried out by H.M. Factory Inspector.
Outworkers' Register.—Six lists, containing 29 names
and addresses, have been received from employers within the district.
In addition to this, 40 lists containing 78 names and addresses of
Outworkers residing in this Borough were received from Medical
Officers of Health of other Boroughs (thus giving a total of 78 Outworkers
in the Borough). Nine lists with 29 names and addresses
were forwarded to other districts. 200 visits of inspection have been
paid to these premises.
