Home, 2 in private houses, and the remaining case was reported
from a private Nursing Home.
Pneumonia.—Facilities are available for examination of
expectoration in order to discover the type of disease; in addition,
serum for treatment may be supplied in necessitous cases on request
from the local medical practitioner.
Home Nursing.—Children attending the various Centres who
are found to be in such a condition as to require special nursing
at home are referred to the various Nursing Associations operating
in the Borough, the Council paying 1/- per visit to the Queen's
Nursing Association. The total number of cases referred from
the Centre was 120. The Council also contributes £50 per annum
to the Ranyard Mission.
Institutional Provision for Mothers and Children.—
Cases of mothers and children who, in the opinion of the Medical
Officer would be materially benefited by a course of convalescent
treatment, are dealt with from time to time. The Committee set
aside the sum of £100 per annum for such cases. Three mothers
and babies and 55 children were sent away during the year. Once
again it was noticed that many mothers were not able to go away
with their babies either on account of not being able to make
arrangements for the care of their other children or objections
being encountered by their husbands.
Health Visitors.—The following tables show (A) the number
of visits made by the Health Visitors during the year in connection
with Births and cases of Infectious Diseases, and (B) number of
Infant Consultations and Ante-Natal Clinics attended and miscellaneous
visits:—
