in the Kidbrooke area by a private Estate Company, it would
seem that there is no further land available for housing in the
Borough.
Underground Rooms.—During the year a survey of underground
rooms was commenced. As a result of this investigation
it was ascertained that there were approximately 1,000 basement
rooms occupied. Many of these cases are of a borderline type in
which slight alteration would ensure compliance with the requirements
of the Housing Act. The regulations made under the Housing
Act, 1925, Section 18 are in force in this Borough, and at the year
end 21 such rooms were either closed or used for some purpose
other than human habitation, approved by the Council.

The following statement submitted by the Housing Inspector shows the progress made in regard to unfit houses dealt with under the Housing Act, 1936.
