MALIGNANT DISEASES.
Cancer was reponsible for a total of 159 deaths for the year.
The number of deaths in 1936, 1935, 1934, 1933 and 1932 were
134, 156, 161, 162, 155 and 160 respectively.
The distribution of deaths were as follows:—63 in East
Greenwich, 35 in West Greenwich, 51 in Charlton and Kidbrooke
and 10 in St. Nicholas, Deptford.
DISEASES OF THE CIRCULATORY SYSTEM.
Heart Disease.—Once again the deaths from this cause
occupy the principal place in the classification of diseases, there
being 338 deaths under this class as compared with 261 for the
year 1936.
There is no doubt that this increase can be attributable to more
definite certification on the part of the medical practitioners.
Many of the deaths which formerly were classified as Cerebral
Haemorrhage and Sjnile Decay are now brought into the circulatory
category.
MORTUARY.
During the year 138 bodies were received into the Mortuary.
The details are as under:—

Bodies brought in upon which post-mortems were held 63
Bodies brought in upon which inquests were considered
unnecessary 14
