Locally the Death Rate varied from 11.29 in East Greenwich,
11.44 in Charlton and Kidbrooke, 13.31 in West Greenwich to
13.92 in St. Nicholas, Deptford.
Of the total number of deaths, 3 were of illegitimate birth,
all of whom were under one year of age.

The following table shows the variation in, and average of the Death Rates in each of the Districts of the Borough in the five years 1932 to 1936 compared with the figures for 1937:—

INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The Infantile Mortality Rate measured by the deaths of children
under one year of age to the number of births registered, was 50
per 1,000 births, and compares favourably with the low rate of
last year, viz., 49.
The total number of deaths during the year was 67 as compared
with 89, 116, 80 and 66, the respective figures for the years 1933,
1934, 1935 and 1936.
Locally the variations were 29 per 1,000 births in Charlton,
50 in East Greenwich, 63 in St. Nicholas, Deptford, to 77 in West
Greenwich.
A further reference to the Infantile Mortality Rate will be
found in the Section devoted to the Maternity and Child Welfare
Scheme whilst a table showing the causes of death and ages is
included in the Appendix of the Report.
For the whole of London the rate was 60, compared with 66
in 1936, 58 in 1935, 67 in 1934, and 59 in 1933. For England and
Wales the rate was 58, compared with 59 in 1936, 57 in 1935, 59 in
1934, and 64 in 1933.
