The duration of bright sunshine recorded was 1134.8 hours, or
25.4 per cent. of the possible total. This is the smallest amount
of sunshine for 40 years. There were 79 entirely sunless days, 32
being in the months November and December.
The total rainfall was 28.85 inches, that is, 4.61 inches more
than the average for 75 years 1841-1915. Measurable rain fell on
173 days. The wettest month was February with 3.94 inches,
and five months had totals either in excess of or closely approaching
3 inches. The remarkable succession of rainy days in the first five
months of 1937 provided a total of 16.25 inches of rain in the period
January 1st to May 31st. This total has never yet been approached
in Greenwich records for the corresponding period of the year.
