POOR LAW RELIEF AND UNEMPLOYMENT.
Some indication as to the social conditions of the inhabitants
of the Borough may be obtained from the following particulars
supplied to me through the courtesy of the Local Public Assistance
Officer:—
Average weekly number of Greenwich Residents in
receipt of domiciliary relief during 1937 1,928
Average weekly amount expended in outdoor relief in
Greenwich £787 10s.
These figures again show a reduction over those of the previous
year, indicating the continuance of the general improvement in
industrial conditions. This has also been noticed in dealing with
the applications for assisted milk supply under the Council's
Maternity and Child Welfare Scheme.
In accordance with arrangements made with the Public Assistance
Committee, 2,622 lbs. of Dried Milk were given to necessitous
families as compared with 4,646 the previous year.

Through the kindness of the Divisional Controller, Ministry of Labour, the following information is given concerning the number of insured persons, aged 16-64 years, resident in Greenwich who were registered as unemployed during the following periods:—
