Rat Infestation.—Investigations in regard to premises, etc.,
alleged to bo infested with rats or mice wore carried out in 115
cases of which 72 were abated. Particular attention is given by
the Inspectors to enforcing the law as regards sealing off of disused
drains thus preventing the ingress of rats.
The special measures adopted during Rat Week wore put
into operation in conjunction with the Borough Engineer's Department.
Public Sanitary Conveniences.—There are 8 Public Conveniences provided by the Council, in addition to 6 urinals, 5 Horse
Troughs and 8 Drinking Fountains, which are cleansed daily by
Attendants belonging to the Public Health Department.
Watee Supply.—During the year 738 water supply certificates
have been granted under Section 95 of the Public Health (London)
Act, 1936. Water fittings have been amended in 399 cases, and
extra water supply to tenement houses in 6 cases.
Dogs—Fouling of the Footways.—Two infringements
against the Council's Bye-laws dealing with this matter were
reported. Small fines were inflicted in both cases.
Shops Act, 1934.—During the year 142 visits were made
under the provisions of the above Act, and it was only necessary
to servo 9 notices for infringements under the Act.
Two applications for Certificates of Exemption in regard to
the provision of Sanitary convenience accommodation were granted.
Houses Let in Lodgings.—Under Section 6 of the Housing
Act, 1925, the London County Council made Bye-laws which came
into force in 1926. These Bye-laws define a house let in Lodgings as
ordinary tenement houses in which the rooms or floors are let out
separately, and all houses suitable to the working classes and occupied
by members of more than one family are subjoct to registration, and
in them there must be compliance with certain requirements as to
sanitation, cleanliness, etc. At the end of the year 98 houses
wore on the Register and 100 inspections were made by the Woman
Inspector. No case called for legal proceedings.
Rag Flock Acts, 1911 and 1928.—These Acts prohibit the sale
or use for the purpose of making any article of upholstery, cushions
or bedding, of unclean flock manufactured from rags. No samples
of rag flock were taken during the year.
Drainage.—During the year 110 plans of Drainage and other
Sanitary works relating to existing and new buildings were examined
and approved.
