Woolwich Road, and are assessed in accordance with their financial
circumstances.
During the year 12 cases were referred and were given free
treatment.
Minok Ailments.—The arrangements with St. John's Hospital
for the treatment of minor ailments continue and during the year
350 cases were referred chiefly on account of tonsils and adenoids,
circumcision, etc. The Council makes a grant of £100 per annum
to this Hospital.
During the year arrangements were made whereby cases
admitted for treatment were retained in Hospital for a longer
period than formerly, owing to difficulties complained of by
mothers in attending to the immediate dressings necessary after
minor operations.
Home Nursing.—Children attending the various Centres who
are found to be in such a condition as to require special nursing at
home are referred to the various Nursing Associations operating in
the Borough, the Council paying 1s. per visit to the Queen's Nursing
Association and £50 per annum to the Ranyard Mission.
Artificial Sunlight.—The type of defect for which Artificial
Sunlight appears of greatest value includes :—
underweight and debility in children, convalescence from
infectious disease or operation, anaemia and bronchitis.
Among the patients referred from the Centres were 58 expectant
mothers and 49 post-natal cases.
Convalescent Treatment.—Cases of mothers and children
who, in the opinion of the Medical Officer would be materially
benefited by a course of convalescent treatment, are dealt with from
time to time. The Committee set aside the sum of £100 per annum
for such cases. 17 mothers and babies and 57 children were sent
away during the year.
Health Visitors.—The following tables show (a) the number
of visits made by the Health Visitors during the year in connection
with Births and cases of Infectious Diseases, and (b) number of
Infant Consultations and Ante-natal Clinics attended and miscellaneous visits:—
