SECTION B.
GENERAL PROVISION OF HEALTH SERVICES FOR THE AREA.
PUBLIC HEALTH STAFF.
In accordance with the request contained in the Ministry of
Health Circular No. 1561, the particulars relating to the Staff of the
Department are set out on pages 3 and 4.
The following alterations in the personnel of the Department
occurred during the year.
Dr. M. Macdonald retired on the 12th August, 1936 on reaching
the age limit. Dr. Macdonald had served the Borough for the past
17 years, first as the Tuberculosis Officer and latterly as Medical
Officer of Health. Consequent on my appointment as Medical
Officer of Health, Dr. W. Alcock was appointed and took up duty
as Tuberculosis Officer and Deputy Medical Officer of Health on
31st Octobor, 1936.
Miss T. I. Husbands, nurse at the Dispensary, also retired
on reaching the age limit, and Miss W. M. J. Luxmoore was
appointed in her stead.
Miss Q. M. Anstice resigned her appointment as Matron at
the Maternity Home and was succeeded by Miss E. M. Marlow in
November.
Following a report to the Council on the pressing needs of
further clerical assistance, two Grade "A" clerks were appointed.
Miss I. B. Mills was attached to the Dispensary and Mr. R. H.
Robinson to the General Office.
Laboratory Work.—The long-standing arrangement with the
Bacteriological Department of the Seamen's Hospital has been in
force throughout the year, whereby that Institution carried out all
necessary pathological and bacteriological work for this Department,
other than under the Food and Drugs (Adulteration) Act, and in
this connection, 1,551 specimens have been examined for Diphtheria,
7 for Typhoid Fever, 390 for Tuberculosis, and 25 for other various
conditions.
Fuller details respecting the results of the examinations of these
specimens will be found under the different headings of the individual
diseases.
