Maternity Home.
During the year 1929, 368 patients were admitted to
the Maternity Home, which is the largest number accommodated during any one year since the opening of the Home in
February, 1922. Up to the end of 1929 there had been a
total of 2,086 patients admitted, the yearly figures being as
follows:—
1922 (part of) 121
1923 228
1924 220
1925 295
1926 256
1927 270
1928 328
1929 368
Of these 368 cases, 8 only required medical delivery,
the remaining 360 being dealt with by the Midwives of the
Home. Five cases required medical assistance for the following reasons:—
Ruptured Perineum (2);
Rise of Temperature (1);
Post-Part urn Haemorrhage (1);
Albuminuria (1).
In regard to the case in which medical assistance was
required for rise of temperature, this was of a slight character
only and cleared up within a couple of days.
The whole of the patients were able to breast-feed their
babies with two exceptions, heart disease being the incapacitating
cause.
A large number of letters from those who had been
patients in the Home were received during the year, expressing
in the warmest possible terms their appreciation of the care and
attention which they had received.
