SECTION 3.
SANITARY CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE AREA.
The tables on pages 29 to 31 and 36 to 42 summarise, as
far as possible, the Sanitary work of the Department ; from
this it will be seen that a total of 20,803 houses and premises
have been inspected or re-inspected during the year ; 1,019
intimation notices and 178 statutory notices have been served.

There were altogether throughout the year 565 complaints
registered.
Factories, Worksh ps and Workplaces.—Three hundred
and forty-five inspections have been paid to these premises
within the Borough daring the year. The number of factories,
etc., on the register at the end of the year was 225 factories,
103 workshops and 37 wharves and quays.
Outworkers' Register.—Four lists, containing 14 names
and addresses have been received from employers within the
district. In addition to this, 55 lists containing 116 names and
addresses of Outworkers residing in this Borough were received
from Medical Officers of Health of other Boroughs, whilst 4
lists with 6 names and addresses were forwarded to other
districts, thus giving a total of 124 Outworkers in the Borough.
110 visits of inspection have been paid to these premises.
