INFANTILE MORTALITY.
The Infantile Mortality Rate measured by the deaths of
children under one year of age to the number of births registered,
was 70 per 1,003 births, as compared with 55 last year. The
total number of deaths during the year was 116, as compared
with 114, 90 and 95, the respective figures for the years 1926,
1927 and 1928.
A further reference to the Infantile Mortality Rate will be
found in the Section devoted to the Maternity and Child Welfare
Scheme.
For the whole of London the rate was 70, compared with
67 in 1928, 59 in 1927, and 61 in 1926. For England and
Wales the rate was 74, compared with 65 in 1928, 69 in 1927,
and 70 in 1926.
Locally the variations were from 63 per 1,000 births in
East Greenwich, 65 in West Greenwich, 70 in Charlton, to 130
in St. Nicholas, Deptford.
