CLEARANCE AREAS:
During 1961 a considerable amount of rehousing was undertaken
by the Council of tenants living in clearance areas, which were
represented in the 1956 60 programme. As a result, demolition of
the unfit houses in the King Square Areas was commenced and at
the end of the year some 184 had been demolished, Plans had been
agreed for the redevelopment of the area.
The programme for 1961-65 which had been agreed with the London
County Council was formally approved by the Minister of Housing &
Local Government during the year. This allows for a total of 287
houses to be dealt with by Pinsbury Borough Council and 324 by
the London County Council during the 5 years. As a result, surveys
were carried out and official representations made in respect
of the Northampton Road and Bowling Green Lane Areas, and Clearance
Orders subsequently made by the Council.
