REPAIR OF HOUSES UNDER THE HOUSING ACT:
No action has been taken since the war owing to the difficulties
involved.
CONVERSIONS AND IMPROVEMENTS:
Comparatively little older property in the Borough has been
reconstructed so as to bring it into line with modern standards,
and little advantage has been taken of grants available under the
Housing Act.
The conversion of the undermentioned properties was completed
during the year.
2-5 Paget Street (by discretionary grant) 12 flats
33 -34 Northampton Square (by Pinsbury Borough Council) 5 flats
One application for a standard grant was withdrawn, and in one
other case an informal enquiry was not proceeded with.
ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING OF STAIRCASES:
Bye-laws were made by the Council in 1958 under the London
County Council (General Powers) Act 1956, requiring the adequate
artificial lighting of common staircases in tenement houses and
flats.
The artificial lighting of staircases in the many blocks of
flats in the Borough is on the whole satisfactory.
CERTIFICATES OF DISREPAIR:
Inspection of properties are made in connection with all
applications to the Council for a certificate of disrepair and
for their cancellation. Advice is given when requested in regard
to the completion of the appropriate form.
The following is a summary of the action taken in recent years,
and the present position. There was very little action taken in
1961.
