Legal proceedings were instituted on 1 occasion for non-compliance
with a Nuisance Notice in 1961, in respect of a leaking roof
at No, 48 Wynyatt Street. As however the necessary work was
carried out prior to the Court hearing, the summons was withdrawn,
URGENT NUISANCES:
During the year several urgent matters arose which can now be
dealt with under the London County Council (General Powers) Act
1955 In such cases after service of the Notice the Council has
arranged for the abatement of the nuisance, and the recovery of
the cost. In 1961 4 such notices were served in connection with
general matters and 6 in relation to stopped drains,
DRAINAGE WORK:
Extensive rebuilding and alteration to existing industrial,
commercial and residential properties has been going on since the
war and continues to take place. This necessitates numerous
visits to building sites and discussions relating to compliance
by building contractors with the London County Council Drainage
and W. C. Bye-Laws
Seventy-eight drainage plans were approved by the Council
during 1961 and 2,117 visits were made by the Public Health
Inspectors in connection with the supervision of work in progress

Since the single stack system of drainage was first introduced
in 1955 some 18 applications to use this system, including 5 in
1961, have been approved by the Council. In each instance the
work has basically complied with the recommendations of the
Building Research Station and satisfactorily syphonic tests have
been carried out on completion of the work.
