Ice Cream Ingredients:
A complaint was received from an adjoining Borough regarding
a sample of ice cream alleged to have been manufactured in Finsbury
and stated to be contaminated with B.Coli (Faecal). The method
of manufacture was closely examined and samples submitted of all
the ingredients used in the process. As a result certain
recommendations were made which it is hoped will prevent further
complaints.
Sausages:
Samples of the various Continental types of Sausages were
submitted for examination and no adverse reports were received,
Canned Hams:
Inspection and examination of this type of canned food has
continued. The position with regard to canned hams has improved,
but owing to the potential danger in respect of the use of suspect
cans for the preparation of sandwiches and other uncooked meals,
close attention must continue to be paid to the canned hams.
Milk:
Sampling of milk for chemical analysis and bacteriological
examination has continued to be carried out from shops, milk
depots, roundsmen, schools and day nurseries. The number of
routine inspections of dairies and milk shops during 1959 involved
231 visits.
