For about nine months in the year the Unit has operated at the
Mass Radiography Centre, 20 Golden Lane, E.C.1. During its mobile
period the Unit visited several firms and organisations within its
zone including a special survey in Finsbury when the Unit functioned
in the Finsbury Health Centre, Pine Street by kind permission of the
Public Health Committee of the Borough of Finsbury. We take this
opportunity of thanking the Medical Officer of Health and his staff
for their helpfulness during the Survey.
Over seven hundred firms were circulated and about two hundred
and thirty firms participated in this Survey which took place from
19th June to 10th July. Also included in this Survey were firms in
the Ludgate Circus area as there is a direct facility to the Health
Centre. The Public Sessions, for which no appointments were necessary,
arranged during this Survey were not too well attended. The
total number of people X-rayed was 4,738. Two cases of active tuberculosis
and eight cases of inactive tuberculous lesions were discovered,
as well as one case of carcinoma of the lung.
At the beginning of 1958 the Unit introduced a new procedure for
doctor's referrals by means of which doctor's patients could attend
the Mass Radiography Centre without a prior appointment. All doctors
in the Borough were informed and given a supply of the specially
designed forms. The response from general practioners has been
gratifying.
The Mass Radiography Service is free, reliable and confidential
and the Organising Secretary of the Unit, at the Finsbury Health Centre,
Pine Street, E.C.1. (Tel. No. TERminus 0031 Ext.9), will be pleased to
send full details of the Service to firms and individuals who may be
interested.
