Food Hygiene Regulations
Work has continued during the year in connection with the implementation
of the Pood Hygiene Regulations in restaurants, cafes and
snack bars. Visits by the Public Health (Pood) Inspectors have resulted
in obtaining compliance with the requirements of the Regulations to a
large degree in this type of premises in the Borough, although concern
has been expressed by many occupiers at the expense involved, in view
of the insecurity of their tenure of the premises, due to expired leases
and short tenancies. Generally speaking the occupiers of this type of
business has been found to be co-operative and it is hoped that by
further visits a clearer view of the need for Hygiene in the Handling,
Storage and Preparation of food will be instilled into all persons
engaged in this business.
The total number of visits made to restaurants cafes and snack
bars during the year was 1,595. These included visits to discuss
proposed works with Contractors and others as well as to supervise
improvements in progress.
