Improvement Grants
Property owners have taken little advantage of the financial
assistance available under the Housing Acts whereby improvements can
be effected to sub-standard houses at the discretion of the Council.
One application outstanding at the beginning of the year was agreed to
by the Council; this was in respect of the horizontal conversion of
2 houses in Pentonville Road to provide 5 three roomed flats.
Two new formal applications were received during 1956 in respect
of premises in Paget Street one to convert 2 houses into 3 threeroomed
flats and the other to provide 3 single-room flats for elderly
people. These applications were both approved and work was proceeding
satisfactorily at the end of the year.
Informal enquiries were received from two other owners but in
each case it was considered the premises were unsuitable for conversion.
