Rodent Control
The Council employs six rodent operatives, one foreman and one
rodent officer.
Treatment for the eradication of both rats and mice is provided
free for all private dwellings, but otherwise a charge is made to cover
the cost of the work.
In conjunction with the Borough Engineer's Department the maintenance
treatment of all sewers was carried out during January, June
and October. It is on the recommendation of the Ministry of Agriculture,
Fisheries & Food that such treatment is carried out every four
months.
Infestations at domestic premises are being slowly reduced, and
during 1956 no serious infestation was discovered. A block inspection
of all properties throughout the borough was commenced and a
number of small infestations of Ship Rat (Rattus Rattus) and mice
found.
