and 1954 but as their chief value lies in a comparison with those of
other areas and as these have only been published for a small number
of districts, the preparation of this table is not continued this
year.
The table shewing the ages at death from the principal causes for
1955 is annexed,, As there is considerable fluctuation from year to
year owing to the small number of persons involved, a summary has been
prepared of the tables for the past five years. The death rates in
the several age groups have been compared with those for the whole
country, A comparison has also been made with the number of deaths
that would have been expected if the same rates for England and Wales
in 1954 had prevailed in the population at risk in Finsbury.

Although the full table is not included in this report the following extracts are worthy of consideration:

1.AgesDeath rates per 100,000 at ages stated
FinsburyEngland & Wales
1 to 412.59.5
5 to 144.13.9
15 to 245.67.5
25 to 4416.417.4
45 to 64130109
65 to 74 (men)590533
-do- (women)325324
75 and over (men)1,3701,375
-do- (women)9801,055

It is thus seen that death rates in Finsbury have been higher
than average in the age groups 1 to 4, 5-14, 45-64 and men 65 to 74,
and lower than average in the age groups 15-24, 25-44 and women of 75
and over.
Infant mortality rates are commented upon elsewhere.
