Inquests.
Inquests were held on 25 residents during the year. The causes
of death found were:—
Natural causes:
(Male 53 years and Female 53 years) 2
Road Accidents:—
(Males 3, 27, 66 and 69 years and Female 10 years) 5
Misadventure:
(Male 1 year) 1
Accidental Falls:
(Males 74, 71, 62 and 47 years and Females 89, 85,
80, 75 (2), 74 and 61 years) 11
Found Drowned:
(Male 36 years) 1
Suicide:
(Males 39, 62 and 69 years and Female 38 years) 4
Asphyxia:
(Male 4 weeks) 1

It is unfortunate that accidents have taken an even greater toll
of life than in previous years, and it should be noted that there were:
(1) Five deaths involving 2 elderly persons and 2 children
from Road Accidents.
(2) Eleven deaths, mostly elderly persons, from falls.
(3) One death in a child from misadventure through scalding
from a fall into a bowl of hot water.
Infant Mortality.
There were 14 deaths amongst infants under one year of age and
the Infant Mortality rate based on 1,000 live births was 21.9. Of
these deaths 10 occurred in the neonatal period. The neonatal
mortality rate was 15.65. The comparative infant mortality rates for
London and England and Wales were 26.4 and 29.6 respectively.
