ICE-CREAM: During 1947 there were 87 registrations for the manufacture,
sale or storage of Ice-cream. 72 visits of inspection were made and
70 samples of ice-cream were submitted for bacteriological examination
with the following results - Very satisfactory - 25; Satisfactory - 13;
Unsatisfactory - 32.

221 visits were made to these premises during the year.
UNSOUND FOOD: The work of meat inspection in the area of the Smithfield
Meat Market continues, since the secondment of Mr. Penman to the Ministry
of Food, to be carried out by Mr. R.S.Barber. Regular inspections of the
meat and offal consigned to the various wholesale butchers and offal shops
and to the depot of the London Wholesale Moat Supply Association were
carried out and were also made of the various bacon factories, wholesale
bacon and provision warehouses and Public Cold Air Stores. Visits and
inspections of the retail butchers shops in the borough were also carried
out.

The number of carcases of Mutton and Lamb found to be affected with
Caseous Lymphadentis was 408, and 18,026 lbs. of pieces of mutton and lamb.
SLAU GHTERHOU SES: The slaughterhouse owned by Mr. J.A.Mobbs, 14 Pen ton
Street was closed down on the outbreak of the war. No animals were
slaughtered there during 1947.
