The London Council of Social Service found it necessary
to close Grand Street House, Worplesdon Hill, Surrey, and the Council
were thus deprived of the valuable service which Grand Street House
rendered; many finsbu ry mother children, havin genefitted by a
restful holiday there. . '
It is hoped that it will be possible to make suitable
arrangements for convalescence with a similar organisation in the near
future.
FOSTER PARENTS:
At the end of 1945 there were two registered foster mothers
in the Borough.
INFANT DEATHS:
There wore 26 infant deaths in Finsbury during 1945, and the
mortality rate based on 1,000 live births was 55. The neo-natal deaths
i.e., oocuring within the first twenty-eight days, numbered 19, and the
deaths of children from one month to one year was 7.
ILLEGITIMATE CHILDREN:
TheCouncil now contribute an annual sum of £101 towards the
improvement of the services of voluntary organisations for Moral Wolfare
in London, and is suitably represented on the councilof Moral Welfare.
The Health Visitors pay frequent visits to illegitimate cases and work in
collaboration with the Moral Welfare Worker of the Local Organisation at
St. Faith's Home. The increased number of illegitimate births in 1945
has already been noted.
