Deaths and Death Rate.
The number of Finsbury residents who died in 1938 was 734,
this is equivalent to a crude death rate for the whole Borough of
12.9. In order to afford an accurate means of comparing the
mortality of the whole district with that of another, the crude death
rate must be adjusted by means of a correction factor. This factor
standardises irregularities of distribution as regards age and sex,
and for the year 1938, it is given by the Registrar General as 1.09.
By the use of this correction factor, the death rate for Finsbury for
1938, the "standardised" death rate, is 14.1.
