The substances mentioned may have been added to preserve the bright red colour of the meat and their presence in such proportions without disclosure is in the opinion of the Public Analyst, prejudicial to the purchaser. The butcher concerned agreed to stop the use of this chemical. Council decided to refer the matter to the Minister of Health.
231	Beef Sausages	Informal	Contained sulphur dioxide, 350 parts per million.	Sausages should not contain preservative unless its presence is declared. Matter taken up with butcher who immediately replaced a notice which had been removed during the re-decoration of the shop.
406	Buttered Rolls	Informal	Consisted of rolls spread with a mixture comprising two-thirds butter and one third margarine.	Warning letter sent to cafe proprietor. Further sample to be taken.
435	Garlic	Informal	Damaged, part of the sample being soft and mouldy.	Matter taken up with vendor.
462	Pork 'N Ham, Canned	Informal	Contained—Meat, 88 per cent Cereal, 1 per cent.	This article should contain at least 95 per cent of meat and the presence of cereal should be disclosed on the label. Matter taken up with wholesalers.
396	"Cream of Wheat"	Informal	Comprised semolina (fortified) containing—added wheat germ, not more than 5 per cent.	The proportion of added germ was considered too small to justify the claim of added wheat germ on the label, and the description of the product did not appear to conform to the requirements of the Labelling of Food Order. Matter taken up with wholesalers.
341	Table Salt	Informal	Contained Magnesium carbonate, 1.0 per cent.	The statement of ingredients did not conform to the Labelling of Food Order, being (1) incomplete (2) inconspicuous and (3) not clearly legible through the outer wrapper. Letter to manufacturers.
222	Lard	Informal	Contained Butylated hydroxytoluene, 140 parts per million.	Presence of anti-oxidant not disclosed on label. Matter taken up with packer.
