VITAL STATISTICS
The following are the principal statistics for 1961, set out in the manner
required by Ministry of Health Circular 1/62 dated 18th January, 1962.
The proportions of old or young vary in different areas and the
Registrar-General gives Area Comparability factors which take these
variations into account. The factor for births is 0.98 and for deaths
1.01 and the birth rate and death rate should be multiplied by the
appropriate factor when making comparisons with rates in other towns.

of births exceed the number of deaths by 572.
