The water supply has been fully satisfactory throughout the year.
Certificates in accordance with Section 95 of the Public Health (London)
Act, 1936, that dwelling houses had a proper and sufficient water supply
were issued in respect of 355 new premises.
All dwelling houses in the Borough have water supply direct to the
house and none are supplied from standpipes.
Clean Air Act, 1956
On the Ist October, 1961, the second Smoke Control Area in the
Borough came into operation. This is a large area covering 267 acres
and including 3,955 dwellings, 19 industrial premises, 63 commercial
undertakings and 12 others.
All the conversions in this area were under the supervision of Mr.
Waring, the Council's Clean Air Officer.
During the early part of the year the Clean Air staff were also engaged
in the inspection of houses in the proposed No. 3 Smoke Control Area
which was confirmed by the Minister early in 1962. This area covers
200 acres and includes 2,907 dwellings, 40 industrial premises, 215 commercial
premises and 17 others.

Sewerage and Sewage Disposal
Sewage disposal is by means of Borough Council and County Council
sewers and is perfectly adequate.
