The Food and Drugs Act, 1955, became operative on the Ist January,
1956, together with the Food Hygiene Regulations, 1955. These Regulations,
which are comprehensive, provide requirements regarding the
cleanliness of food premises and persons engaged in the handling of food.
A summary of the main provisions of the Regulations was prepared in
the Department and distributed to all food handlers in the Borough.
At the same time the staff continued with systematic inspections to ensure
general compliance with the legal requirements.
Once again I am glad to have the opportunity of thanking the Staff of
the Public Health Department for their diligence and loyalty throughout
the year and my thanks are also due to the Chairman and Vice-Chairman
of the Public Health Committee for their support and help.
