Eradication of the Bed Bug.
Verminous conditions, whether of the home, of wearing apparel or
personal in character, come within the scope of the Council's activities.
During the year under report, it was not found necessary to disinfest
any Borough or County Council houses.
268 rooms in 140 privately owned houses were found to be in a
verminous condition and were disinfested.
The usual method employed is the application of Sulphur Dioxide.
Where this is not practicable owing to pervious walls and floors or
where it is impossible for damageable articles to be temporarily removed,
spraying with Solution " D " is carried out.
Before removal to Council houses, the belongings of tenants in
whose homes traces of vermin are discovered, are sprayed with the
above solution.
All disinfestation is carried out by the Local Authority.
The Sanitary Inspectors systematically revisit premises which have
been disinfested and advise tenants as to measures to be taken to
prevent re-infestation.
Sprays and a supply of Solution " D " are issued to tenants on an
Inspector's advice and used under the latter's supervision.
